Copley was founded in 1891 as the railway station for old Leigh Creek and eventually grew into a township in its own right. Copley Cemetery, also known as the Old Leigh Creek Cemetery, lies about 1km west of town and appears not to have been in use for some years.
Ian Middleton visited the site in July 2010. He says that there is no signposting to or at the cemetery and that it is in poor condition. Inscriptions date from 1890 to 1971. Ian photographed and listed every visible inscription. His images may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.
