The original Bungwahl cemetery is a small enclosed area, surrounded by private land and perched high on a hillside overlooking the Myall Lake. There are now only a few sad remains of the early memorials, most of which have been broken or eroded to the point of being illegible.
Paul Fitzgerald paid two visits to the cemetery during May 2009 and photographed every visible or partly visible inscription. He says, "The cemetery only has evidence of 11 graves remaining, all in very poor condition so identification is not easy. The wire fence that had been around the graves is broken down and the cattle walk where ever they like."
His list of inscriptions for this cemetery has been compiled from his images and notes, and with reference to the NSW indices of births, deaths and marriages for additional information.
We have been unable to determine who, if anyone, has responsibility for the Old Bungwahl Cemetery site.
