Tamworth General Cemetery is a large regional cemetery that dates from the 1840s. The monumental cemetery is divided into denominational portions including Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Independent, Latter Day Saints, Methodist, Presbyterian, Salvation Army and Seventh Day Adventist. The portions are well marked and sections and row markers are in place.
There is also a large lawn cemetery dating from around 1970 that includes garden and columbarium for the placement of ashes. The whole site is maintained in excellent condition by the Tamworth Regional Council.
Our record of this cemetery began with a listing of inscriptions made by Roma Waldron in 1990. During 2007 and 2008, Liz Pritchard has made a digital image of every visible inscription and has listed and researched over 10,000 records.
Liz's images may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. That list has been compiled with reference to the NSW indices of births, deaths and marriages and to the Australian War Memorial online military rolls for additional information.
Tamworth Cemetery is located on Showground Road, Taminda, West Tamworth, opposite the showground.
