Upper Caboolture (Uniting Church)
Caboolture River Road,
Upper Caboolture Uniting Church Cemetery (is a trust run cemetery) that dates back to 1874, the year in which the land on which the church was subsequently erected and also donated. The current church building dates from 1875 and was originally built for the Primitive Methodist congregation.
The cemetery is still in use. Information posted at the site provides some details of its history. Of the cemetery, it states: "One of the oldest in Queensland, the cemetery dates from 1874 and is recognised for its importance to social history researchers. Many pioneering families of Upper Caboolture are buried within it; some shown by marble headstones and one of the graves has a timber monument, however, many graves are unmarked."
Joe Sharman has contributed digital images of every visible inscription he made during his visit to the cemetery in July 2010. He found the area in excellent condition, the monuments are erect and legible, grave surrounds freshly painted and grass mown and trimmed. It is apparent that efforts have been made to mark known but previously unmarked graves. In addition, a plaque lists some twenty other unmarked burials whose precise location is unknown.
Joe's images may be viewed from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. That list was compiled with reference to the Queensland indices of births, deaths and marriages and to the Australian War Memorial online military rolls for additional information.
From Caboolture, head south on Morayfield Road for 2.3km and turn right into Caboolture River Road. From this intersection, it is 5.6km to the cemetery. Lat -27.107286 Long 152.895203
