Argyle Downs Station Cemetery

Address: Lake Argyle Road, via Kununurra 6743 WA

Argyle Downs Station Cemetery is located on the property selected by the pioneering Durack family in 1886. Sonya Organ has contributed images of the inscriptions that she took in July 2010. Sonya writes: "The homestead and the cemetery were in danger of being flooded by the rising water of Lake Argyle so, in 1971, the homestead was dismantled and rebuilt stone by stone at its present site at the head of the dam, as were the headstones."

According to information posted on site, several of the headstones have been relocated from their original location at Dunham River in order to preserve them from vandals and grazing cattle. The removed headstones have been replaced by a cairn at Dunham River marking the location of these graves.

Sonya's pictures may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.
