Hanging Rock Historic Cemetery
Address: Nundle - Hanging Rock Road, Hanging Rock 2340 NSW
The images from the Hanging Rock Historic Cemetery have been kindly provided by Denis Woolaston, who visited and photographed it on 2 June 2007.
This tiny cemetery, surveyed in 1869, today contains only four of the original headstones. However, thanks to the efforts of author and historian Tom McClelland, who has undertaken considerable research of historic cemeteries, Hanging Rock Cemetery now displays plaques listing the names of all known burials at this site. He has also recorded and displayed details of others who died on the Hanging Rock/Nundle goldfield and who were buried in known or unknown graves in the area. All of the names listed have been included here.
The Ashton Circus family have a strong association with Hanging Rock - see picture of plaque above.
Denis’ images may be downloaded from the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery. The list has been compiled by reference to the NSW BDM indexes for additional information.
How to find it
