Anakie Cemetery

Address: Anakie Sapphire Road, Anakie 4702 QLD

The list of inscriptions at Anakie Cemetery was originally compiled by Christine Frater in 2000. Christine writes: "Anakie is one of several small townships in the Central Queensland Gemfields, positioned at the 'crossroads' along the Capricorn Highway, about 40km west of Emerald. It may be small in size but is a big piece of the Gemfields puzzle. One of its original buildings, the Anakie Hotel, is noted for the fortunes won and lost there. The Anakie Cemetery was closed but reopened in 1977 for the burial of Bob Pacey and then remained open."

In June 2010, Peter and Karen Patterson Kane visited the site and photographed all visible inscriptions. Their images may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. In updating the list, reference was made to the Australian War Memorial online military rolls for additional information.
